"Freedom lies beyond heaven and hell"
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, Stalin invites all workers in the world to come and build a new society based on justice, equality and freedom. More than 10,000 Americans answer the call. One is Jussi Ketola, an American with a Finnish background. However, the dream of a communist paradise is quickly shattered when he is harassed by a fascist gang on one side and the KGB on the other. Despite the many challenges, he manages to settle in the community and build a family. But as the political climate changes, the foreigners become undesirable elements in Stalin's regime.
