In Ik Omhels Je met 1000 Armen, Giph, a starting writer and his girlfriend Samarinde, doctor and much sought-after model, go on holiday in Spain with their group of friends. During the holidays, his relationship with Samarinde appears to be under strain. This is partly due to her absence during his mother's illness. The agony and eventual euthanasia of his mother deeply affected Giph. He is unable to share this with Samarinde. Giph distances herself more from her and from their friends. The decision that Giph and Samarinde ultimately have to make has profound implications for their bond with their friends.

Full of unnecessary scenes. Unfortunately.
The time jumps try to keep it a bit more lively and they succeed.
The two storylines should be woven together, but that is less successful.
Not a bad word from the actors, certainly not from Tijn Docter and Catherine ten Bruggencate in the only scene that really grips.
Still not a movie to remember.

Wonderful drama film.
I can understand all the commentary, but in the end the strength of the film was the internal storm of Giph, which Tijn Docter has masterfully portrayed. The rest didn't matter.
In the scenes where he had to let all emotions out, he unfortunately fell short, especially against a good actress like Carice van Houten. Eternal sin.

The mother of a night porter/writer is ill and he has a hard time dealing with it. He can't talk about it with his girlfriend, he's too much of an insider for that, or she's gone to a faraway country. And his friends are a bunch of jerks. Or something.
