Sober film from our own soil with a nice story and also excellent acting by Monic Hendrickx and Jaap Spijkers. Moreover, the typical Dutch polder landscape is beautifully portrayed. The built-in moments of silence are also strikingly strong.

Well done.

It is a pity that screenwriter Kees van der Hulst distances himself from the content of this film.

Once again one of the better films from the Netherlands of the 90s.

I used to be intrigued by the tracktor on the cover when I saw the VHS in the store. Finally, I also asked my mother what this film is about. To which I got in reply; Ooooh, it's just a continuous talking movie, a farmer and a woman are sitting at the table... every now and then a tracktortje drives past.... Now that I've sort of examined the plot, I now know why this should have been a movie as my mother described it. It is also better to keep the contents away from children.

And then you would expect it to be served with a lot of brussels sprouts and peas from the farmland. On the contrary! The Polish Bride is for me a really strong film, even if indeed not much happens. Jaap Spijkers once again acts very well in this as a grumbling gruff farmer from Groningen, Henk who one day finds an injured woman named Kristina, who seems to be Polish and who is also portrayed very well here by Monic Hendrix. With a very faltering and counter-intuitive beginning, a relationship gradually develops between the two, which also ensures a few strong and emotional scenes and where the romance is not misplaced at all. But besides that, the film is also very menacing and exciting, because Kristina is a prostitute who is on the run from two pimps, who are violently trying to get her back. The idea that , despite Kristina still being in the middle of nowhere within 24 hours, she immediately knows where she is, and that in 97/98, is pretty creepy.

Furthermore, the locations have already planned me to take a piece of Groningen with my folding bike.

Very strong movie.

Beautiful drama film from Dutch soil. Very realistic concerns: Eastern European women who are recruited by pimps, stiff farmers who only speak when necessary (I know from experience), farmers who often shoot better than pimps (yes really), Poles who learn languages faster than many think (I have worked with them). Their lovemaking after the expression of aggression was not surprising, that is called jumping behavior (known from behavioral theory). Image size started out narrow, then got wider, reminded me of Xavier Dolan. Cinematography typically Dutch with a wide view and gray cloudy skies. Music appropriate to the mood of the film. Anyway, Henk no longer has to participate in Boer is looking for a wife......
