Certainly not the best Dutch film, but a good Dutch product. After a somewhat slow start, the film actually manages to drag you along quite quickly and manages to hold your attention until the end. The acting performances are generally fine, and visually there is nothing wrong with it, a strong story and the role of Löw make it an excellent film, but it does not become a real high-flyer either. 3.5*.

I got to see this gem of Dutch cinema for the first time today. Everything is right. The atmosphere, the music, the dialogues.

Van Huet, Decleir and certainly Löw carry this film.

Enjoyed the finesse in the language. *4.0

Surprised.

Despite the poor image quality, this film is completely surprising. I've always looked a bit down on Dutch cinema, but this one along with The Marathon might be the best Dutch movies I've seen so far seen. Deserves his Oscar too.

What immediately stands out is the excellent acting. Fedja van Huet has one of the best Dutch performances ever. The rest does not come across unnecessarily exaggerated and human. The film remains fascinating for the entire playing time of 2 hours, but really the entire playing time.

Still a very cool movie. Not too difficult, not too standard and almost not a single wrong element. Deserves an 8/10.
