Penn does a Rainman.

The story is gripping and thought provoking, but I struggled with the execution. I didn't think it was realistic how different people interacted with Sam. Also (the character development of) the character that Michelle Pfeiffer plays was very cliché. Furthermore, I occasionally found the "wild" camera work a bit disturbing and not appropriate for a film like this, but more with an action film, for example.

A positive point is the game of the then still very young Dakota Fanning.

Film shows a father's touching love for his daughter and that love is even contagious.

Nice, but this is about the only thing I want to remember from this film, because actually I can hardly imagine some of the situations outlined.

What a sweet, touching film with a very cute Dakota Fanning, Sean Penn is very good in his role and Michelle Pfeiffer also portrays her role as a busy, rather hysterical lawyer, although I sometimes think she is a bit too thick and exaggerated. I was afraid that I would find it a boring film, I regularly think that films in which lawsuits play a major role, but I certainly do not find this film boring. It looked smooth and nice and I think it's a strong story with interesting characters. Visually, I think it looks great too. Maybe it's crazy that I didn't know this one before. More than an 8. 4*
