Nan works hard to keep her household running on the small salary of her husband William "Bill" Reynolds. Bill is dissatisfied with his job as a manager in an office, but he is afraid to take risks. When Bill's company hires expensive ad writer Patricia "Pat" Berkeley, her success fuels Nan, who attended high school with Pat. Nan then tries to convince Bill to start his own company.
