Esther plot

Ahasuerus, king of Persia and Media, casts Vashti aside and makes Esther his queen. He chooses her from among the virgins in a kingdom that stretches from India to Ethiopia. Esther saves the king from an assassination attempt with the help of information from Mordecai, her uncle and protector. The king's favorite Haman is angry when Mordecai refuses to bow to him, so he orders the death of all the Jews in the kingdom, under the king's seal. Esther pleads for her people, and Mordecai in turn is given permission to issue his own edict. Mordecai loses sight of his original intention, and a bloody massacre ensues.
