France (Deneuve) is a haughty, bourgeois woman who has been abandoned by her husband by the side of the road after a heated argument. In a parking lot she meets Charles, a doctor who has been taking his car apart for the past few days and can't put it back together. The doctor thinks he understands the emotionally unstable woman.
