Dreamland plot

Bonnie & Clyde light. A crime drama with an authentic-looking portrayal of the hopeless existence in the American South during the Great Depression. Margot Robbie comes out surprisingly strong with a varied interpretation. Pleasant pastime.

Nice.
Wonderfully slow in construction, especially, but beautifully portrayed. Authentic too, making good use of the desolate setting. The Bonnie and Clyde story is really just background noise. Margot Robbie and Finn Cole act well enough to make something of it. Some scenes stand out, but overall a pleasant sit anyway.

The Evans family is one of the many families that can barely keep their heads above water due to the extreme drought in the 1930s. When news reaches them that bank robber Allison Wells [Margot Robbie] may be in the area and that a $10,000 reward awaits whoever turns her over to the police, Eugene [Finn Cole] and his stepfather [Travis Fimmel] part of a posse. When Eugene finds Allison injured in their own stable, she convinces him to hide her by promising him a better future. The narrator [Lola Kirke] is the adult version of Eugene's very young half-sister Phoebe [Darby Camp]. Robbie is fine in what she considers a subdued role, but the screenplay by the inexperienced Nicolaas Zwart is much less convincing and has a fairly hackneyed, melodramatic denouement.
