De Vuurtoren plot
Film about a dreamy boy who grows up in a small village on the IJsselmeer, around 1950. Initially, the world of the fifteen-year-old main character does not extend beyond the village boundary. When the boy comes into contact with sexuality, falling in love and death for the first time, he starts to look at his familiar but also oppressive living environment with different eyes. The lighthouse on the dike is a symbol of his desire to escape the narrow-mindedness of his environment. Here he comes to look out over the sea, symbol of obstacles to be overcome.
