Das Jerusalem-Syndrom plot

German biologist Ruth Gärtner travels to Israel, where her younger sister Maria is being treated in a specialized psychiatric clinic. Mary suffers from the so-called 'Jerusalem syndrome' and believes that as the Mother of God she will give birth to the Messiah. Ruth wants to ask for custody and take her heavily pregnant sister to Germany, but Maria appears to have disappeared. Ruth learns that Mary has joined a group of fundamentalists whose leader wants to enlist the "Mother of God" and her child in his own dubious schemes...
