Porque in Vas. No indeed. You can't get that number out of your head. I went to bed with it last night and woke up with it this morning. Special film this 'Cría Cuervos'. An intriguing look through the eyes of little Ana. Beautifully played, what a great performance. What I like about this film is that director Saura really penetratingly conveys being a child and even though the events have been traumatic for Ana, the film and her life as a little girl still seem to be fairly carefree. That's why 'Cría Cuervos' as a whole still feels fairly light-hearted. However, we can see what impact being a child has on later life when the old Ana is speaking. It is so important to have a good childhood. But you don't have that choice as a child. The dreamy atmosphere enhances the impact. Handsome movie.

Fairytale and dreamlike story, where you wander in the memory of Ana; a child whose childhood has become obsessed with questions of death and life. Comments and behavior of adults take on a life of their own in her thoughts, reality and fiction intertwine throughout the film.
Actress Ana Torrent lands a solid role as 11-year-old Ana, the middle of three children. Her sad and expressive eyes set the mood, the rare times she smiles are immediately noticeable and then break the moment. The roles of her two sisters Irene (the eldest) and Maite (the youngest) are also well played.
Her deceased mother could have led a freer life as a pianist, but because of fear of failure she opted for a more domestic life. Her later deceased father was a volunteer on the Russian front for the Spanish army. He fulfills his wife's wish to appoint her sister, the aunt of the children, as guardian. That aunt is not portrayed very strict, but she has the problem that she has to replace a loving mother.
The mood, the rhythm, of the film sometimes seems to be broken by certain intermediate images. In it, an adult Ana comments on her childhood. That doesn't look good at all. The political metaphor with Spain from 1976 and earlier is an extra. Despite that double bottom, it seems like there could have been a little more story in the film. Nevertheless, a large enough.

Cría cuervos y te sacarán los ojos.
A Spanish saying. This means something like: "raise ravens and they will peck your eyes out". A description for educators, who have no luck raising their children. Strangely enough, that image doesn't seem to match the film itself, except for the "pot with the contents".

A film that touched me less than the most recent opinions above. Not a bad movie by any means, but I didn't like it at all. A story that dragged on and which I struggled to get into. Little Ana Torrent in particular stood out with a fine acting performance as a young girl.

The plot was further made interesting by using a narration voice and switching between present, past and future. There is a certain atmosphere about the film, but I don't feel involved enough to be completely immersed in it. That costume scene did indeed stand out in the film, it was fun and cheerful, but I didn't think it was magical or exceptional.
