Strong anti-war film about the consequences of the war, in which an army wife starts working in a veterans' hospital during the Vietnam War. But also a moving and intimate love drama between the army wife and a patient. A beautiful soundtrack and a poignant final speech. Realistically portrayed and two wonderful roles by Jane Fonda and especially Jon Voight as the ex-soldier in a wheelchair.

Hal Ashby puts things in this 'Coming Home' that are very good, but just seem to miss a certain impact. The cast is decent. Voight is fantastic, Fonda and especially Dern definitely less so. I even found the latter somewhat out of place at times. Furthermore, real highlights actually do not materialize, while the story is constantly fascinating and sometimes has quite striking scenes. Ashby has a beautiful soundtrack at his disposal, he manages to let the best records play in the background. 'White Rabbit', 'Expecting to Fly' are among my all-time favorite songs. Ashby unfortunately does not get the most out of it, but that is of course more personal. All in all a good movie. Atmospheric and quite fascinating. Not the best anti-Vietnam veteran film or something I've seen. But many have also been made of course. Enough.

I've always found this one of the best films about the impact of the Vietnam War on the American home front. Although the conservative Jon Voight and the progressive Jane Fonda really hated each other, they show a great interaction in this film. Both were rightly rewarded with an Oscar for this; this was the second time for Fonda (after Klute (1971). The wonderful, now nostalgic soundtrack also lifts this film far above average. I've seen it a few times now, but it won't be the last time.
