Cole McKay is 16 years old and struggling with his Irish Catholic family. His older brother Terry finds himself in a world of drugs and crime, his sister Kathleen tries to hide the shame of pregnant with an illegitimate child and Cole's father is on nothing but booze. The only thing that keeps Cole going is his love for baseball. He is very talented and wants to reach the top in the baseball leagues.
