What an unbalanced, yet entertaining film in which a single Englishman orders a Russian mail-order bride. And what initially starts out as somewhat comical, soon takes a different turn. Ben Chaplin's character is extremely boring, but luckily there's Nicole Kidman who certainly convinces with her Russian accent. The ending where the two ers still run off with each other, after everything that happened,is not exactly believable.

Another unknown film, but because I liked the cast I gave it a try. I didn't really know what the movie was going to be about, other than that it was a comedy. Unfortunately, the comedy part was a bit disappointing. The film starts off well, but halfway through the film it takes a different direction. The film is a bit of a mixture of different genres and I didn't always know which direction the film would evolve.

The acting was decent. Perhaps a plus for Nicole, who says almost nothing for the first half hour, but still manages to captivate.

Well, it wasn't a bad movie, but it's not a movie that will stay with me for a long time either. Worth watching on TV, but nothing more.

"Birthday Girl" is a fine film with a silly Englishman and a shrewd Russian who quickly get to know each other at the beginning of the story. Well, know? On the first day, John actually wants to get rid of his Nadia right away, the sooner the better. But first he will have to get in touch with the dating agency in Moscow and as he soon finds out, these ladies and gentlemen are not very cooperative. So after a few tries, he finds out that this is a dead end. In the meantime, Nadia has become more and more determined and started to work with him more and more physically, which also stops him after a few days from getting rid of her.

And then finally the story takes a turn and we see what Nadia means by starting a family.

A nice film, drama and humor punctuate the story and the interpretation of this whole is fine to leave to our actors/actress who put down a beautiful whole! Another strong point is that our Russians have a good command of English and Russian.

A spacious 7+!
