Barbara Frietchie plot

When war breaks out, William must also fight alongside the Unionists. William's platoon eventually takes Frederickstown, where Barbara lives. Barbara goes to Hagerstown with William to marry, but representatives of the Confederates prevent the marriage. Arthur even injures his former friend William and kidnaps him to his own home. Barbara thinks William is dying and flies the flag of the Confederates as they march by, hoping they'll take care of William. However, Jack Negly of the Confederates, who was also in love with Barbara, then shoots her.
