Backstage plot

American pop singer Kate Lawrence wants to pursue a career as an actress. The only work she can find is the lead role in an Australian theater production. The fact that that role is played by an American does not sit well with the rest of the cast and with theater critic Robert Landau, with whom Kate is having an affair.
