Jenny Isaksson is a psychiatrist who is on vacation while her husband is elsewhere. Haunted by visions of an old woman, she falls into a deep, inexplicable depression. Desperate for an escape from this nightmare, she begins an affair with the married doctor. The tensions become too much for her and she attempts suicide. Floating on the brink of death, all the people who influenced her life pass in review. Only when she is recovering does she learn who the old woman from her visions is and why she is living this painful emotional experience.
