One of the most overrated professions in the world is that of the actor or the actress. Look, I put on a cloak and now I'm a wizard or look, I'm putting on a crown, I'm a princess.

Even worse when one starts portraying the joy, sadness, or any emotion of another. In that regard, you are not at the right place with Ingmar Bergman. The Swedish director does not shy away from the grand gesture and the great emotion and reached his absolute peak or depth with 'Hõstsonaten' in 1978. You have to be able to handle it, but if you succeed, this gala for the stars Ingrid Bergman (no relation), Liv Ullman and Lena Nyman will be a more than successful ensemble film.

Very confrontational and harrowing film about a mother-daughter relationship in which confrontation is not avoided and old wounds are torn open. Very strong dialogues characterize this film and also based on memories you can weigh a lot about the fragile relationship.

Charlotte comes across as quite narcissistic and has always put her career ahead of her family. She knows nothing about her children and was also shamelessly surprised when it turned out that her daughter Eva had taken her other disabled daughter into her home. Her self-righteousness was further accentuated with her red dress. This contrasted sharply with the austere surroundings and the gray autumn images.

Strong acting by Ullmann and Bergman give the film the necessary credibility. As we are used to from Ingmar, a very sober setting in a read more style, great close-ups of the protagonists, atmospheric and emotionally touching. strong!

Autumn Sonata by Bergman, fantastic film.

Masterfully re-enacted in 1993 by Tosca Niterink and Arjan Ederveen in Kreatief met Kurk, in a hilarious language that had to pass for Swedish haha...

The film may look depressing and heavy, but there is definitely flair and even momentum in the film. And humor! Laughed out loud at Bergman as she tries to turn on that shower... "I bet the shower won't work." ..stands underneath, with bathrobe and all and then.. sure enough, the shower starts.. "Oh, it does." haha..

Charlotte (Ingrid Bergman) is a worldly, self-centered woman who has never paid much attention to her children, which by the way doesn't seem to bother her, or so it seems, because when she's alone in her room she says aloud to himself: "Always that guilt again." While lying in bed, she comes up with the - in her eyes - bright idea to give her Mercedes as a present to her daughter. As a kind of saving grace.

The chemistry between Eva (Liv Ullmann) and Charlotte is unparalleled. Both are trapped in a psychological osmosis, the proverbial umbilical cord has yet to be cut. Bergman is close to the two protagonists, as in the scene at the piano; a full-screen close-up of both mother and daughter captured in one frame. Charlotte plays Chopin and Eva watches, but Eva then sits and stares at her mother for a long time, with her green binoculars.

Beautifully interpreted by Ullmann, by the way, that caring towards her mother and sister, the cute glances she gives her mother through her round glasses, the braid around her head like a kind of wreath.

Her monologue in which she throws everything out is of absolute intense beauty.
