In 1725, samurai Isaburo becomes annoyed when his son is forced to marry his leader's mistress. Isaburo does not want to allow this, but his son accepts and he and the woman, Ichi, fall in love. However, when the leader's son dies, Ichi is forced to return to the leader's side, and Isaburo, who had just come to terms with the situation, is once again enraged.
