Movie a mess? Bad music? Perhaps. But everything is swept away by a monstrously good Pacino. What a joy to watch that.

You're out of order! This whole trial is out of order!

3.5*.

Average.

Court dramas usually appeal to me. Alas, ... And Justice For All. has not quite succeeded. In my opinion, the film tries to tell just a bit too much, but it stays on the plain in all aspects.

The main point gets only little attention and is therefore not interesting enough, despite the satirical ending.

Al Pacino is allowed to play a role that is made for him. He has a fairly natural appearance and is allowed to shine at the end - something he can do better than anyone else. Yet this does not come close to its peak performance.

The supporting roles are all fairly well taken. It's just a bit of a shame that Pacino's mentor Lee Strasberg doesn't have more to say.

Average courtroom drama that has an eye for several aspects, but does not excel in any of them.

No, that's not it. It hangs in two minds: a moralistic indictment of the American justice system, exaggerated and cringe-inducing, on the one hand, and a very lame comedy on the other.
Bad editing now and then, which makes feelings suddenly seem to explode while normally the tempo is quite low. By the way: I can handle a slow pace, but time was taken here for things that had hardly anything to do with the plot (the helicopter scene, for example). Pacino's acting also suffered from this, because it was verging on over the top, and the poor editing sometimes pushed it over the edge (for example the sudden tears in the end scene ). Somehow it sometimes created a soap opera atmosphere, while it should have been a serious film.

Pacino and his co-star did quite well, Forsythe just as flat as later in what was it Dynasty? Dallas? The rest of the cast had comedic roles or didn't do much of it.
All in all, well, really only interesting as a statement about how people thought about justice in the popular culture of the late 1970s.
