Maud Schoenberg (Isabelle Huppert) is an extraordinary and strong, independent filmmaker who is struck by a stroke. She fights hard, recovers almost completely and is then eager to embark on a new artistic venture. When she lets the charismatic con man Vilko (Kool Shen) into her life, a friendship grows. Maud is attracted to his arrogant energy. It's not long, however, before Maud starts writing checks for "business ventures" born of Vilko's feverish imagination.
