Coming from a wealthy family, Tim Richmond was different from the other drivers in NASCAR racing in the south. They were mostly working class and he was a flamboyant showman who received a lot of attention from the media and his fans. But his performance on the track was no less than that of other legends. In 1986 he won no less than seven NASCAR races and finished in third place in the Winston Cup. According to many, he was about to become famous, but his free lifestyle meant that that day would never come. He unexpectedly stopped racing. According to his own words because he had double pneumonia, but the real diagnosis was AIDS.
