"She spoke up"
Recy Taylor, a 24-year-old black mother, was raped by six white boys in Alabama in 1944. As was the custom in Jim Crow South, few women who had been victims of sexual violence spoke about it out of fear for their lives. But Recy Taylor boldly identified the culprits. The NAACP sent its lead investigator Rosa Parks to analyze the facts and he provided support. It resulted in an unprecedented cry for justice. The film reveals a legacy of physical violence against black women and Rosa Parks' intimate role in Recy Taylor's story. They even attempted to rape Rosa for revenge. In the end, justice was done for countless women like Taylor. The 1955 bus boycott was an end result, not a beginning.
