The Rainbow Warrior plot
In 1985, the French government announced new nuclear tests on Moruroa, an atoll in French Polynesia. Environmental group Greenpeace's ship, the Rainbow Warrior, is in Auckland harbor to lead a protest flotilla heading towards Moruroa. On July 10, 1985, two bombs explode on board and blow a large hole in the hull, causing the Rainbow Warrior to sink. Fernando Pereira, a Dutch photographer, is killed. Initially it is thought to be a terrorist attack, but the investigation soon points in the direction of the French Secret Service. The documentary incorporated hundreds of hours of archive material and interviews with those involved.
