Ons Waterloo plot
The Amsterdam café Waterlooplein 77 in the Rapenburgerstraat of owner Annie Bodemeijer is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. Spouse Nico Bodemeijer manages many stables on the Waterloopleinmark. The building next to the cafe also has something to commemorate. During the Second World War, the Dutch-Israelite Girls Orphanage was located there. On February 10, 1943, all but one hundred orphaned girls were arrested and deported during a raid. Suzy Rottenberg tells how she escaped, returned to Amsterdam after the war and how she never dared to take another step in the Rapenburgerstraat.
