In the wake of the 2016 election, journalists along the coast must assume they are not penetrating the US state. In his own way, Wiseman helps fill that void, immersing us for a few months in a corner of the Midwest rarely depicted on film. He doesn't openly tackle politics, but he makes us think about a region where agriculture, sports and the Christian church are dominant factors in a mostly white community.
