Killer at Large plot
Obesity (being seriously overweight) has reached epidemic proportions in the United States in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that approximately 110,000 people die each year from obesity and 1/3 of all cancer deaths are directly related to it. Former surgeon Richard Carmona notes that obesity is a more pressing issue than terrorism. Obesity is a terror from within, it destroys our society unless we do something about it, it becomes something against which the dilemma of 9/11 or any other terrorist attack will be a piece of cake. Based on our human evolution and our changing environment, public policy on obesity must be addressed by our government. 'Killer at Large' shows how little is being done and more importantly, what can be done to turn the tide. 'Killer at Large' also explores the human aspect of the problem; parts of the film follow a 12-year-old girl who undergoes controversial liposuction to reduce her weight gain. We also see many other people who suffer from obesity, including the filmmaker Neil LaBute.
