Julian Assange spent 7 years in Ecuador's embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden (and then the US). In 2019 he was arrested and a lengthy legal procedure began to determine whether there was a legal basis to comply with the US extradition request. The immediate cause is the publication of documents and videos that put the American government in a bad light. This documentary focuses on the attempt by Assange's lawyer and wife Stella Morris and his father John Shipton to gather as much political and social support as possible for Assange's release. An emphatic and convincing plea for Assange, freedom of the press and freedom of expression and a fascinating portrait of the enigmatic Shipton (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, it turns out). What is missing is insight into the formal basis for the charges against Assange, which gives you as a viewer the space to take a balanced position.
