Irrawaddy Mon Amour plot
The young street vendor Soe Ko lives in a small village on the Irrawaddy river in Myanmar. He is in love with Saing Ko, a quiet mason from another place, and dreams of a wedding with all the trimmings: beautiful clothes, jewelry and make-up. However, in military-ruled Myanmar, marriage between two men is strictly prohibited. Homosexuality is not accepted and many homosexuals suffer from stigmatization and discrimination. But in this small community there is a special and close-knit circle in which gays are welcome. Meetings are held regularly, where young people tell their sometimes poignant story about exclusion by relatives and fellow villagers, and find support from each other. Among them are a human rights activist, a school teacher, a shaman and a makeup artist. They decide to realize the marriage of the young lovers.
