Gambler plot
"He made Pusher. Now, he's six million in debt."
Documentary maker Phie Ambo wanted to experience that: a filmmaker who would go bankrupt. She followed Nicolas Winding Refn - director of the 'Pusher' triptych - in uncertain times. Or perhaps 'harass' is more appropriate here than 'follow'. What is special about this making-of is that the filmmaker was not primarily interested in making the films. She was more fascinated by the personal pressure being placed on the filmmaker. How financially the thumbscrews were tightened, and how that in turn had consequences for his private life. That's why she filmed where every other making-of ends. Until late at night with the filmmaker on the couch, when he has to explain to his wife that the upcoming film could well be his downfall - their downfall.
