Exile in Buyukada plot
Leon Trotsky is expelled from the Soviet Union in 1929. At first he does not want to move to Turkey as a place of exile, because of the culture unknown to him. Turkey itself is not really waiting for him either, because of the problems that the exiled communist could bring. Eventually they find a suitable place for him: the picturesque island of Büyükada in the Sea of Marmara (south of Istanbul) where he will eventually spend the best times of his life. This documentary not only examines Trotsky's life in exile, but also gives the viewer a glimpse into the political developments in the young Turkish republic and the ideology struggle in Europe in the 1930s.
