De Sleutel van het Leven plot
Jacob de Leeuwe (67) is working on an impossible monastic task: translating the Talmud into Dutch. No one has ever done that before. The Talmud is one of the most important books of Judaism. They are the ancient oral statements of the Old Testament, which were later put in writing. They form the basis for understanding Judaism. But if you ask De Leeuwe, the wisdom from the Talmud is much more widely applicable, also for non-Jewish society. Director Lex Bolle tries to find out where De Leeuwe's almost obsessive passion comes from to continue an unfinished work. In total, the Talmud consists of 63 parts and about 13,000 pages. In ten years' time, De Leeuwe has translated almost three volumes.
