October 31, 2017 will mark 500 years since Martin Luther launched the Protestant Reformation with the publication of his 95 Theses. It is the reason for director Greenaway to make a film essay about Luther's legacy on the basis of 16th and 17th-century drawings and paintings. He involves his contemporaries such as Erasmus and investigates the influence of various communication revolutions. First that of the printing press, which made large-scale propaganda possible, then that of the computer.
