Cuchillo de Palo plot
In Paraguay you will not easily come across the house number 108. '108' is still a term of abuse that dates from the time of dictator Alfredo Stroessner's witch hunt for (among others) homosexuals. The first blacklist of gays had 108 names. Rodolfo, an uncle of filmmaker Renate Costa, was also on such a list. She still remembers the day her uncle was found dead in his room. The death was shrouded in mystery by the family and her father still seems embarrassed by the case. Rodolfo was the bad-tempered brother who wanted to be a dancer instead of a metal worker like his other brothers. Why did Rodolfo look for those gay men, why didn't he want to change and become normal, Costa's father, now divorced, still wonders desperately. Costa wants to know who her artistic uncle was. She visits his old friends, meets a transvestite who bursts into tears, discovers the infamous lists in the archives, and hears about persecution and torture.
