"New Cinema. New Wave. New York."
Today, Manhattan is synonymous with expensive stuff, exaggerated sights and exclusive fashion. However, in the late 1970s it was plagued by rats and crime. A place where America dumped its immigrants, the poor and artists. Filmmaker Celine Danhier offers a look at the birth of 'No Wave Cinema' and the vibrant art culture that emerged in the late 1970s. In the years before Ronald Reagan took office, Manhattan lay in ruins. But true art was never born of comfort, and it was precisely the difficult circumstances that inspired artists like Jim Jarmusch, Lizzy Borden and Amos Poe to create some of their best works.
