Bla Cinima plot
The square in front of the Sierra Meatra cinema - formerly called Hollywood - is Algeria in miniature. Old and young, rich and poor is coming. They hang out, walk, trade, but above all: they discuss. An ideal workplace for documentary maker Lamine Ammar-Khodja, who is looking for the meaning of film in Algeria in “Bla cinima”. All he has to do is turn on his camera to start a stream of memories, pleadings and reflections. Opposites abound; for some, film equals education, for others it is moral degradation. Gradually it becomes more and more about politics, generational conflicts, unemployment and the relationship between men and women. Film turns out to be the perfect occasion to talk about everything that concerns Algerians today.
