Very good movie. Truly the 1st Dutch film that was good: atmosphere, setting, actors. But I think that's largely because I wasn't watching a movie, but the reality. I knew that what I was looking at was actually a piece of a world completely unknown to me. The part of the world that you see in the news and read in the newspapers, but now look at it from a completely different perspective. He grabbed me right away. I would give him 4 stars. If he also had a good ending. Unfortunately, this is AGAIN an open-start movie. It really doesn't make sense! I have so many questions. I just watched 121 minutes of fun and fascination, but that last minute ruined everything. That last minute was the bad aftertaste that makes me feel so bad right now and doesn't like the movie anymore. So bummed! I hate directors who do that, they give you a little each time, but take it all away in the end. What exactly happened? Was he killed by that Turk? Who entered his dressing room? And how does that continue? There were 3 rounds of fighting right? If he is finished, he still hasn't lost, but the match is still void? So do the Turks still not get their money? And what happened to his unfaithful friend? And with Tessa? And did that money really end up with the bat's parents? So many questions. Really annoying. shit movie.

Wow!

Totally not expected, but I am really quite impressed that this comes from the Netherlands. I rarely thought that the Netherlands could also deliver these kinds of films. But in the end Taihuttu proves that it is indeed possible to make good Dutch films.

Impressive performance from Kenzari here. Now it is completely clear to me why that man is now in American movies. He is just a very good actor, who knows how to give his character plenty of charm and a face. He makes Majid a "cool" character.

The black and white images do have a contribution. They make the tone a bit more raw, which makes the film sometimes a bit harder and more intense. I have rarely really experienced that a film from the Netherlands is really intense and exciting.

Film is never boring, partly due to Kenzari's performance. He just plays a captivating character that makes the movie much more watchable. The crime is hard and raw, and the drama is there, but it never takes over here. Good thing, because a movie like this can't exactly use a lot of tears.

Camera use is fine. Especially tracking shots that generally work fine. The cast is good, and although I did need subtitles for the Arabic parts in between, every actor finally plays well. Only Maerten I found a bit bumbling sometimes.

Fascinating production and definitely, without a doubt, one of the best NL films out there. A lot of other directors can take an example from this.

A kickboxer [Marwan Kerzan] with a criminal record tries to make a fresh start, but a return to crime remains tempting and almost inevitable in the long run. Many awards, but not because of the screenplay that is too reminiscent of a Hollywood B-movie and therefore hardly has any surprises. But Taihuttu's dynamic direction, Lennart Verstegen's beautiful camera work and Kerzan's bravado keep you glued to the tube. Contains some extremely convincing kickboxing scenes for enthusiasts. Kerzan and Taihuttu won a Golden Calf, as did Lieke Scholman, who was responsible for the production design.
