Increased on revision. The Coen movies are like the Tarantino movies to me. Their own style, but sometimes it feels a bit forced and it seems that you MUST like all their films. And that is not always the case, especially with their more recent works. Miller's Crossing is one of the better Coen movies. An ode to the gangster/film-noir films with the necessary humor without it becoming a parody. Here and there nice and hard and some over the top scenes that give the whole thing extra spice. Jon Polito and John Turturro aren't exactly my favorite actors and they do the film more harm than good. Although others here would much rather see Turturro at work.

This film is also nicer to watch with better music than we usually see with the Coen brothers. So for me one of the better films of their record.

Solid and good are the first words that come to mind. Not quite what I initially expected because I thought the real issues between Leo and Tom were a long time coming and so I missed the somewhat characteristic humor that is usual for the Coen Brothers.

Nevertheless, it is far from an annoying film and the film guarantees a good crime drama, excellent acting and more than decent atmosphere. The nice but also predictable thing about the plot is how Tom actually does the dirty work for Leo, only expected the latter to know about it/plot. Now it seems to be a successful attempt by Tom to work his way back in.

Miller's Crossing is mainly characterized as a slow but reasonably atmospheric drama where no one can be trusted, a few nice moments of heavy violence, and the usual Coen gang comes along with Tuturro, Buscemi and Mcdormand. Very nice for once and perhaps there will be a grade increase in revision.

Good film about the right-hand man of a gangster who has a relationship with his boss's girlfriend. The film sometimes surprises by playing with the conventions of the gangster genre. Some well-constructed scenes with good dialogue. The cast is doing an excellent job. Just short of 4.0 stars because the plot is fairly complicated and not equally interesting everywhere.
