"Is anyone there?"
After his failed marriage, John Berlin, a Los Angeles police officer and near burnout, moves to the small town of Eureka, also in California, at the invitation of his old friend and colleague Freddy Ross. One of his new colleagues, John Taylor, immediately hates him, because John's arrival made him miss his promotion. After finding a hand in a garbage bag at the local garbage dump, John sets out to reopen the unsolved case of an unidentified murdered young woman, nicknamed "Jennifer," but finds resistance from his new colleagues. However, based on small scars on the hand, John makes a discovery that gets things rolling again...

Certainly entertaining, and for a moment the film rises to top level with the twist in which Garcia is accused . Malkovich is once again enjoying himself as a smart interrogator and in that period Andy Garcia could also be seen in many good films (Internal Affairs, Things to do in Denver...). As stated here before, the ending is a big disappointment and is finished in just three minutes, and towards the beginning there is a lot of semi-romantic stuff in it. Jennifer Eight is not that special, and then again not wrong at all.

Mediocre film in which a cop finds a hand in a garbage dump and thus ends up on the trail of a serial killer. The film starts off well, but the unbelievable things quickly come into play. Also quite long winded. Fortunately it doesn't get really annoying and the scenes between Andy Garcia and John Malkovich are still worth watching.

This movie has all the elements to be a good thriller. But unfortunately it also has quite a few elements that let it down, and that's a shame, drinking cops, over-emphasis on the spotlight breaking, scars on a hand caused by braille 
. The ending is also too short. The cast plays well and the atmosphere is fine, with a little more attention to details this could have been a good thriller. A shame, because now it just stays below that level. Nevertheless, it is very enjoyable and still an above average thriller. 3*
