Cleaner plot

"Solving a crime can be dirty work"

Tom is a former police officer with a mild neurosis towards fear of unhygiene, who also carries this quality into his work: namely cleaning crime scenes. During a case, he becomes involved in an elaborate web of intrigue when it turns out that a murder has been covered up.

Fairly thriller.

The film especially benefits from a slightly more original set-up. The profession of cleaner makes the first half hour a bit more interesting than usually the case. After that, however, the film quickly lapses into the typical clichés, with a lot of backhanded stuff within the police's own ranks.

Visually it is just a bit hipper than usual, but Harlin doesn't last too long. Jackson is doing well, although he again plays a role that is close to what he normally does. I liked Ed Harris a lot less, he sometimes puts it a bit too thick. And Mendes can hardly be called an actress.

The second part flies by fairly anonymously. Fortunately, the film does not last long, so that the pace ensures that it never gets too boring. But the level of the beginning is never reached again.

Not an annoying film, but not too striking either. If you've already watched three similar films in the not so distant past, I would give this one a little rest, but otherwise a nice genre film with a nice premise, but which falls a little too quickly into the usual clichés of the genre.

The sinister profession of the title character, the tense relationship with his grieving daughter and the modest play of Samuel L. Jackson, which for once does not rely on arrogance and slander, make this a rather special and dark film. The descent into corruption and unreliability within the police force unfortunately draws the plot into a bit of a cliché, but in the end I end up with more than enough, especially thanks to Jackson, an actor who, despite his ubiquity, I don't necessarily like to watch but which is really great here.

Good thriller with a good story.

A Cleaner, yet something new, a profession that (for me) has never before been presented so clearly and horribly in a film. At least, almost never....
Reading that Samuel L. Jackson was also in the production, I suddenly thought of the only other clear Cleaner in a film that you can link to Jackson:
mr. Wolf.
Perhaps that was a very small source of inspiration?

Also a strong cast for this movie.
Although Samuel L Jackson is a very good actor, he often has a comedic side, which I hoped not to see in this film, because this often immediately evaporates the tension from a film.
Fortunately, in this film he was serious, believable and strong acting.
Ed Harris always plays well and believable, only 1 disadvantage if he plays along you almost always know for sure that he is the crook, only the course remains a mystery for a while and that's a shame, perhaps another actor would have been better.

Good story with enough tension. Not much plot twist, but that wasn't really necessary either, just an old-fashioned search for the killer, which gradually becomes clear.
