Weird Science plot

"If you can't get a date, make one!"

Gary Wallace is anything but popular and is treated like an absolute zero by the girls at school. He often stays home to play on his computer or watch videos with his friend Wyatt. When the two boys have seen the movie Frankenstein one evening, they get the bright idea to scan a number of photos of beautiful women into the computer. However, the experiment becomes harsh reality when a stunning woman is in the room after a huge explosion.

I had little faith in this film but with The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, John Hughes has built up some credit with me, thankfully Weird Science far from squandered this. In fact, I've only become more curious about his other films.

The story is very cliché, namely two unpopular guys who come up with something that makes them popular. The fact that they do this by inventing a machine that ensures that they have suddenly created a stunning girl out of nothing is far from a cliché. The absurd premise of the film ensures that you take the film far from seriously and continue to watch it purely for the comedic situations. There were enough of these, the film is a wonderful accumulation of small humorous moments. Here and there Hughes goes a bit too far over the top when it comes to science fiction, but this is made up for by the lack of long 'goodfeel' moments that movies like this can 'mess up' for me. Overall, an entertaining comedy, three and a half stars.

Revised after almost 35 years. Yes, then you know you're getting old. The film has not withstood the test of time very well. The premise is irresistible and Anthony Michael Hall is perfect in the lead role, but once the two protagonists have their perfect wife walking around, the script of craziness doesn't know what to do with her. For example, immediately after her creation, people travel to a blues bar, where nothing happens at all. And so the film rattles from one vague scene to the next, sometimes funny, often not. Fortunately, there is the brilliant supporting role of Bill Paxton as bastard brother Chet, which makes it all a bit bearable.

adolescent movie. At first I was annoyed by the bad plot: within 10 minutes Mrs. is already there. And then the acting! But it wore me down with all the corniness, so after a while I just let it get to me. But it wasn't really funny. It also secretly has quite a high Flodder content.

Reviewing childhood sentiment is always dangerous.
