October, 1979. Ricky Dean Logan and Vicki Newton lean on each other for support as they attend the execution of Jakkariah "Jack" Harding, the serial killer who killed their children. After his horrific death in the electric chair, Ricky and Vicki try to move on with their lives. They don't get very far: Harding has escaped death and targets some friends who have gathered to watch a football game. Ricky and Vicki may be the only ones who can stop Jack.

A simple homage to 70s horror films that benefits solely from a solid collection of wacky characters. The dedication some cast members pour into their characters results in a collection of unusual scenes that are quite comical, but director Jay Burleson doesn't do much with them. The outdated filters, the dully solved murders, and an even more ridiculous murderer all demonstrate a lack of effort, which the filmmakers dismiss as a so-called ode. The Third Saturday in October certainly has some interesting concepts and isn't terribly tedious to sit through, but it ultimately disappoints.
