The Matrimonial Martyr plot

Erma Desmond leaves her aunt and uncle to visit a friend, Phyllis, in the city. There she finds work as a companion to the very temperamental Mrs. Stanley. Mrs. Stanley has terrorized her husband so much that he went away for a few months, supposedly to take their daughter to school, but mainly to get some rest. However, the servants continue to suffer her terrible attacks, until the day she decides to go to Reno to get a divorce.
