A nice comedy in which the slightly absurd Catch-22 situation means I don't have to identify too much with the bitter financial predicament the Lawrences find themselves in. The film occasionally reminded me of Mr. Blandings builds his dream house with Cary Grant from two years earlier, and Grant could actually have played the lead role in The jackpot, although that's hard to imagine now because James Stewart has made the role so much his own. Alan Mowbray has a nice supporting role as the chic interior designer, and as Stewart's daughter we see Natalie Wood before she became dazzlingly beautiful.
