” Are you divorced or widowed? Did your husband commit suicide? I could understand that.”

I thought I'd grab a simple snack from Allen, but unexpectedly this turned out to be another wonderful film by Allen. It all starts a bit slow, but after that everything comes loose in a nice way. The story is quite funny and also the typical forties atmosphere is well imitated.

Allen plays his typical self again, but I always like to see that. His neurotic behavior is infectious and the dialogues are high quality and above all very witty and funny. The most surprising, however, I found here the role of Helen Hunt. Normally I don't like her, but here she manages to be funny a few times and has a great chemistry with Allen.

Very entertaining, good acting, good dialogues and very funny. As far as I'm concerned, this “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion” can best be counted among Allen's better work.

Good film in which an investigator for an insurance company knows how to catch every thief. The dialogues are perhaps less sharp than Woody Allen's used to, but this is compensated for by the entertaining developments that follow each other at a fairly rapid pace, making this an entertaining film.

Just read that Allen himself did the lead role because Jack Nicholson didn't want to. That would have been cool, because Allen is totally unsuitable for this role and is also the reason that it is really one of his lesser works (which he thinks for that reason). Still, it's amazing that despite about 40 better films, this one is still entertaining and has a sufficient score. 3 stars.
