The film is still standing. It is an added value of Woody Allen to make the film in black and white, so that it remains timeless. In addition, it allows him to represent the heart of Manhattan and not focus on the buildings of the city itself. The story is a cynical world full of romance and art like a lot of hipsters avant la lettre. Allen has written better, but this is still one of his better films. Fascinating characters and dialogue, Woody Allen himself in form and more than just a neurotic American. Especially visually it is beautiful to see and the cocktail with the dialogues is a wonderful classic.

New York lovers are always at the right place at Woody Allen. 'Manhattan' is his ultimate ode to the city. The beautiful opening images set to music by George Gershwin are enough to wrap you up. Then follows a thin story full of 'first-world problems': writer's blocks, extramarital affairs, gossip and backbiting, midlife crises or the usual Allen cocktail. A lot of attention has been paid to lighting and locations, making 'Manhattan' arguably his best film.

“My analyst warned me, but you were so beautiful I got another analyst.”

Manhattan is another real Woody Allen movie. I'd rather see the man in the director's chair than as an actor, and Manhattan is a prime example of this. The film looks absolutely fantastic, and the way Allen portrays New York (in black and white) should be taught in every film school. Allen himself plays another neurotic type with obvious problems, and it sometimes starts to look like a trick. Fortunately, Diane Keaton is still there. Let's not talk about the subplot around Isaac and 17-year-old Tracy (Allen and Hemingway).
