The idea of this film is nice, where the roles all seem reversed. The twist then comes as a surprise and works very nicely. Too bad about the mediocre roles and the annoying character of Peter.

The trouble with comedies is that sometimes you're in the right mood and sometimes you're not at all. The characters and the humor just didn't work, although I do understand the hilarity of some scenes. But I especially had the idea that people had to laugh at the exaggerated swearing in flat accents.

Andy Serkis is a good bad guy of course. His grimaces alone are immediately reminiscent of Gollum and King Kong. Shearsmith complements him well as the lash of the bunch. Ellison has a nice body, but her attitude got on my nerves more than it was funny. Nice cameo from Doug Bradley.

A little over halfway through the film, things get a little more interesting with a killer that may look uninspired, but is pretty clunky. The special effects are actually quite good. Still, I was never quite in the movie. Atmosphere is just not good and the comedy passed me by. This time, because next time it may turn out differently, as long as the mood is right.

Pretty awful.

The Cottage has become a special film, and therefore completely different from what I expected. I only looked at the poster and some cast members, and based on that I expected a brutal genre film. Something completely different from this in any case, but that doesn't work out exactly positively.

For starters, this is actually more of a comedy movie than a horror movie. That doesn't have to be a problem, and with names like Serkis you have to come to an end. At least, that's what you'd think, but the film doesn't succeed at all. It is a very hyperactive form of humor, which is almost always annoying and gets in the way of the story itself. Nothing is taken seriously in this film, which, combined with steel-hard horror, should and can work.

However, there is no such thing as steel-hard horror within this film, but perhaps some unpredictability, and that keeps the film going. Other than that, there is little to enjoy. The deformed threat is very boring, any form of tension is nowhere to be found and the gore is almost completely absent. Even the limited amount of murders are shown off-screen.

Wouldn't have been a problem if the rest of the film could balance itself out a bit, but the busy execution and dull visual interpretation put a stop to this. In this way, The Cottage quickly becomes a film that is boring, but also annoying. That combination is deadly in a negative way, and I found it a tiring whole to get through. I don't have much more to say about it. Not my thing. Bonus points for good acting and some unpredictable twists in the story.
