It is difficult to explain why this is not so much fun, despite the presence of the dancing talent of Fred Astaire, the beauty of Paulette Goddard, the music of Artie Shaw and three successful musical numbers (Astaire as a Cossack!). Maybe it's because Astaire and Burgess Meredith have to play two charming rogues, but actually only come across as rogues par excellence, also because they seem to have no chemistry between themselves ("Astaire and Meredith are not Bing and Bob", like Dk2008 rightly points out), and therefore it doesn't really matter to me who will ultimately be allowed to run away with Paulette (although a good listener will have no doubt about that given the difference in status of the two actors ). No, I wasn't bored, but I was also waiting for the moment when I would really enjoy all the complications, and unfortunately that didn't happen anywhere, no matter how busy things got on screen.

Nice detail: funny how, when Shaw is rehearsing with his orchestra at the end, in the background a workwoman is mopping the stairs and a man is sweeping the floor.
