Director Carol Reed makes a successful attempt to recreate the atmosphere of The Third Man and he adds to this in the second half of the film a strong dash of romance. Although not as good as Reed's famous masterpiece from 1949, the result is again an exciting drama, set in the destroyed and torn Berlin 8 years after the war. As you would expect, James Mason and Claire Bloom deliver strong roles. With Mac Hammer Fan, I believe that more people should see this exciting film.

Nice film about an English woman who goes to visit her brother in Berlin, who recently got married there. A bit long-winded here and there and the relationship between the two main characters did not really interest me. The tension is mainly in the last part of the film. It's nice to see the ruins of post-war Berlin here.

Atmospheric spy thriller by the acclaimed Carol Reed, director of the iconic film 'The Third Man' (1949) starring Orson Welles. But 'The Man Between' does not come close to reaching the level of that film. This is mainly because the intrigue is difficult to follow. If I understand correctly (but please correct me if I'm wrong) it is about the smuggling of people from the Russian zone in Berlin to the west, which involves a lot of money. But perhaps that intrigue does not matter so much and it is mainly about the atmosphere in that torn Berlin shortly after the war.

Made according to the well-known procedure that the characters know more than the viewer, except for the main character of course, until he ultimately knows more than the viewer. I don't like that very much. But no problem, the images of the destroyed Berlin with its ruins are impressive. And it is a joy to watch the young James Mason (what an actor!) and the blossoming love between him and the lovely Claire Bloem. The Cold War grins at you in this beautifully shot black-and-white film.
